Cora Lee Foster, MD completed both her A.B. and M.A. at Stanford University. She received her medical degree and completed her general surgical residency at the Medical College of Pennsylvania, where the Philadelphia County Medical Society honored Dr. Foster with the Humaneness in Medicine Award. During her residency, she did clinical research in the intensive care unit and went on to become a Surgery Fellow in surgical nutrition at Johns Hopkins University. Dr. Foster is certified by the American Board of Surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

Dr. Foster joined Surgical Associates of Ithaca in 1996, and two years later became the local lead investigator in a diagnostic study leading to the use of lymphatic mapping and sentinel node biopsy in treating breast cancer at Cayuga Medical Center. She has played a central role in creating the Multidisciplinary Breast Care Clinic at Cayuga Medical Center, which provides patient care from before diagnosis all the way through the diagnostic process and treatment.

Dr. Foster also has special interest and expertise in endocrine-system surgery, including thyroid and parathyroid surgery. She worked closely with Ithaca endocrinologist Dr. Adam Law and Dr. Dan Sudilovsky, director of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Cayuga Medical Center, to establish the Thyroid Nodule Clinic at Cayuga Medical Center. This multidisciplinary thyroid clinic is one of the few of its kind in the country. Additionally, Dr. Foster serves as medical director of the Cayuga Center for Wound Healing at Cayuga Medical Center, which offers state-of-the-art wound care, including hyperbaric oxygen therapy for treating chronic wounds.
